MEDICINE
& ALLIED FIELDS
Medical science and the art of healing is not for
everybody, certainly not for weak hearted. One has
to be strong enough to endure the constant misery
of mankind, yet be gentle enough to understand the
sufferings of patients and empathies with them. A
doctor has to constantly treat the extremely delicate
path between success and disaster.
Those who want to study medicine should decide to
do so immediately after class 10 and study physics,
chemistry and biology at the pre-university level.
Admission is extremely tough and is through competitive
entrance examination, Engineering, Agriculture and
Medicine Common Entrance Test (EAMCET), conducted
after the Intermediate examination.
There
are basically four disciplines
in medicine:
Allopathy (MBBS): Bachelor
or Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
Homeopathy (BHMS): Bachelor
of Homeopathy Medicine and Surgery
Ayurvedic (BAMS): Bachelor
of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery
Unani (BUMS): Bachelor
of Unani Medicine and Surgery
All the courses are of five-and-half-year duration.
