FILM PRODUCTION AND ACTING
The Indian film industry has a reputation for being the most prolific. It has also received the industry status from the government.
The four main career options in film production are film direction, cinematography or motion picture photography, sound engineering and film editing. Among the institutes offering specialization in different aspects of film-making in India, the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, is the most popular. It offers specialization in film direction, motion picture photography, sound recording and sound engineering. Cinematography is also offered as a diploma course in Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu, Chennai, Satyajit Ray Film Institute, Kolkata, and Film and Television Institute, Orissa.
Acting is an intensely competitive field and many believe that actors, like journalists, are born, not made. Talent and luck are still the most important ingredients of success in this profession. Though modeling is a popular mode of entry into the profession, there are training schools and theatre groups that can fetch entry into this profession. Notable among them is the National Schools of Drama in Delhi. Stars like Shahrukh Khan, Nandita Das, Shabana Azmi are all products of the NSD. The school, fullyfinanced by the Government of India, is a premier institute that provides training to graduates in acting, design, lighting and other aspects related to theatre and dramatic arts. Photography as a career choice can also prove lucrative, besides being creative. Photographers are employed by newspapers, advertising agencies and government agencies such as Press Information Bureau and DAVP. The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University at Masab Tank, Hyderabad, offers a course in professional photography.
MEDIA RELATIONS
It is part of public relations that involves liaisoning between corporates and mass media organizations. Most of the corporates now employ PR companies to handle their interaction with journalists and to project hteir corporate image to the public. Anumber of institutes offer course in public relations.
